View in the center of Nijkerk, The village of Nijkerk, print, c. 1700 - c. 1799, printmaker, paper, etching, height 161 mm x width 214 mm, church (exterior), village, two-wheeled vehicle drawn by one animal, Nijkerk, A sepia-toned etching shows a street scene dominated by a large Gothic church with tall pointed roofs and a central spire, flanked by smaller steeples and buttressed walls with arched windows; adjacent to the church are rows of narrow multi-story buildings with steep gabled roofs and rectangular windows, some with climbing vegetation on the facades. In the foreground a paved street runs past the buildings where small groups of people are gathered, including standing figures in long garments, seated figures, and a person pushing a cart; further back a carriage is visible near a tree-lined area. The sky is filled with finely hatched horizontal lines and soft, billowing clouds, and the overall composition is rendered with detailed linework and crosshatching.
