In 1721, an edition appeared containing only the prints: Nederlandsche oudheden, bestaan in zesachtig verbeeldingen, gelegen in Holland, 't Sticht van Utrecht en Gelderland enz. Amsterdam: Hendrik Bosch, 1721., fortress, street (city(-scape) with figures, staffage), Leiden, Burcht van Leiden, A detailed engraved scene shows a large circular stone fortress atop a grassy, tree-covered hill, with crenellated walls and small trees growing along the battlements; a long sloping path or ramp bordered by foliage leads up to an arched gateway set into the wall, and ornamental pillars and an ornate gate structure stand at the base of the slope; in the foreground a paved plaza or promenade is bordered by a balustrade, and various figures in period clothing walk, stand, or converse, including adults and children, with some small animals near the ground; trees of varying sizes dot the hillside and foreground, and the sky above is rendered with parallel horizontal lines.
