Smaller adjoining buildings with pitched roofs and chimneys line the waterfront to the left, and a stone wall extends from the right side of the main building into the water. Trees and smaller houses appear behind the wall on the right. On the river a small boat with a canopy and a solitary potted tree on a platform are visible. In the foreground an open plain or square contains people walking, groups conversing, riders on horseback, dogs running, and a horse-drawn covered carriage moving across the scene, all rendered in fine line work. Above the buildings a flowing ribbon banner and sketched clouds occupy the sky.
