In the foreground right, a large tangled mass of fallen men and horses lies on the ground, rendered with dense crosshatching. Behind the mounted group, ranks of infantry and cavalry advance across rolling terrain, with smoke or cloud-like engraving marks rising above them. Trees frame the right edge and distant hills appear on the horizon, while the sky area is left mostly blank.
