Crucifixion, print, album page, This print is part of an album., c. 1600 - c. 1699, printmaker, paper, engraving, pasted on album page, height 273 mm x width 184 mm, crucified Christ, with particular persons under the cross, A monochrome engraving shows a central figure suspended on a wooden cross with a cloth around the waist and a halo behind the head, arms outstretched and head bowed; a small sign is affixed above the cross. Surrounding the cross are clouds and cherubic faces peeking from the sky, ornate architectural frame elements at the top, and several figures at the base including a person kneeling and holding the central figure’s feet, a seated woman with an upturned face and draped garments, another standing sorrowful figure with a hand near the cheek, and armored soldiers with helmets and a horse. In the foreground on the ground lie a skull and other bones. The scene is composed of finely engraved lines and crosshatching that define form and shading.
