Annunciation, print, album page, This print is part of an album., c. 1600 - c. 1699, printmaker, paper, engraving, pasted on album page, height 273 mm x width 188 mm, the Annunciation: Mary kneeling, A sepia-toned engraving shows a scene framed by an ornate arched border with scrollwork at the top corners. A radiant dove surrounded by rays appears near the top center, partially enclosed by cloud formations. Multiple cherubic figures with small wings emerge from the clouds around the central light, some clustered together and some looking downward. Below them, an angel with flowing robes and large wings descends or gestures toward a standing woman, offering a stem with blossoms. The woman stands beside an architectural pulpit or lectern, one hand near her chest and the other extended toward the angel, her head veiled and eyes lowered. Swirling drapery and layers of clouds fill the space, and a small open book or object rests on the pulpit while fabric and a basket lie on the floor nearby. The image is composed of fine engraved lines and hatching that produce shading and texture throughout.
