The man is turned away from the viewer with his back, buttocks, and legs prominently visible, one foot planted on the ground and the other slightly raised on tiptoe. He grips the lion near its mane with both hands while the lion rears up on its hind legs, its front paws bent and claws visible. The lion’s head is close to the man’s torso, showing a fierce facial expression with a prominent mane composed of dense, flowing lines. Fine parallel lines form a textured background and shading across both figures, with crosshatching used to model musculature and fur. A narrow border runs along the bottom of the image and a strip of decorative text appears below the scene.
