David Teniers probably produced an oil study on canvas or panel (so-called pasticcio) of all the paintings in the collection of Leopold William of Austria, which served as a model for the printmakers. It is not always clear whether the pasticci were made by him or by his studio. Not all pasticci have survived., the dead Christ in Mary's lap, A black and white engraved scene showing a reclining male figure with a cloth around his waist, his eyes closed and his body draped over a ledge, supported by a seated woman wearing flowing garments and a head covering whose eyes are closed and whose head leans back, a second adult figure behind them with a visible face and hand resting on the woman's shoulder, a crown of thorns and a small tool or object placed on the ledge nearby, a background divided between a dark textured wall and a lighter landscape with a tree and distant hills, and drapery and folds beneath and around the figures.
