This print is part of an album., printmaker: Theodorus van Kessel, Southern Netherlands, after painting by Guido Reni, Italy, publisher: David Teniers (II), Brussels, grantor of privilege: Spanish Crown, 1660, paper, etching, height 170 mm x width 229 mm, David Teniers probably produced an oil study on canvas or panel (so-called pasticcio) of all the paintings in the collection of Leopold William of Austria, which served as a model for the printmakers. It is not always clear whether the pasticci were made by him or by his studio. Not all pasticci have survived., the elders making advances towards Susanna, A monochrome etching showing an outdoor scene with trees and bushes in the background and a curved stone balustrade in the middle ground. A partially draped seated man wearing a turban and a bearded man beside him lean over the balustrade, one with a finger to his mouth and the other holding fabric. A nude woman sits on the edge of a pool with one foot in the water and a cloth draped around her, her head turned upward. At the pool edge a crouching figure pours water from a vessel into the basin. Architectural elements include a pedestal and a rectangular block beside the seated woman. The image is rendered with fine crosshatching and line work.
