This print is part of an album., printmaker: Quirin Boel, Southern Netherlands, after painting by Domenico Feti, Italy, publisher: David Teniers (II), Brussels, grantor of privilege: Spanish Crown, 1660, paper, etching, height 165 mm x width 231 mm, The print was produced after the painting by Fetti which is in the collection of the Barber Institute of Fine Arts in Birmingham (inventory number 49.13). David Teniers probably produced an oil study on canvas or panel (so-called pasticcio) of every painting in the collection of Leopold William of Austria, which served as models for the printmakers. It is not always clear whether the pasticci were made by him or by his studio. Not all pasticci have survived., the blind leading the blind (Matthew 15:14), A black and white etched scene shows a rocky landscape with trees and shrubs in the background and foreground; three standing figures and one kneeling figure occupy the right side, each wearing draped clothing and holding wooden staffs, one of the standing figures offering a cup; the kneeling figure grips a staff and reaches toward the ground; a child-like figure stands beside the adults with folded arms and a turned-up collar; textured lines indicate distant hills and a stream or waterfall behind the group, while several bare tree trunks rise near the center and left, and clustered foliage fills much of the upper area.
