David Teniers probably produced an oil study on canvas or panel (so-called pasticcio) of all the paintings in the collection of Leopold William of Austria, which served as a model for the printmakers. It is not always clear whether the pasticci were made by him or by his studio. Not all pasticci have survived., Anna before Aeneas, entreating him not to leave, An engraved scene showing a shoreline with a large ship moored at the left, its mast and ornamental prow visible, and small figures on and near the vessel; several people stand or walk along the water’s edge, some carrying objects and others grouped together; in the foreground a group of draped figures cluster beside architectural elements including a tall column and an arched doorway, two of the standing figures wear plumed helmets and short cloaks while one kneeling woman holds an infant; a sculpted statue stands in a niche by the arch and a carved mask decorates the architectural base; the sky and water are rendered with fine horizontal lines and the ground shows textured hatching.
