Lamentation, Passio Christi Ab Alberto Durer Nurenburgensi Effigiata, The Little Passion, print, album page, The dead Christ is mourned by his mother, Mary Magdalene and John the Evangelist. Print is part of an album., printmaker, after print by, publisher, The Hague, paper, engraving, engraving pasted onto album page, height 131 mm x width 101 mm, Christ's body supported, A rectangular engraving shows a group of robed figures gathered around a seated, partially nude male figure whose head tilts back and whose limbs are limp; one person kneels near his feet with long flowing hair and another figure leans over him holding his legs. Several standing figures around them wear hoods or head coverings, some with beards and one with a fur hat, and one figure raises both hands with palms up. Drapery and folds of cloth fill much of the composition, with a crown of thorns lying on a clothed surface near a coiled rope and a small cylindrical container nearby. In the background there are trees and a ladder leaning against a vertical beam, and fine parallel and cross-hatched lines create shading across the entire scene.
