London: John Crowder, 1805, vol. 2, p. 279., herding, herdsman, herdswoman, shepherd, shepherdess, cowherd, cattle, evening, A monochrome landscape scene shows a group of cattle and figures on a grassy, rocky shore by a calm body of water, with clouds filling much of the sky and a small flock of birds in flight; several cows stand or lie on the ground in varied poses, one close to the foreground resting, others clustered near two standing human figures who wear broad-brimmed hats and carry long staffs, while another seated figure appears among the animals and a mounted rider sits to the left holding a stick; the distant shoreline features a cluster of buildings including a tower or castle partially silhouetted against the horizon, and sparse vegetation and rocks frame the foreground.
