This print is part of an album., number, watermark, printmaker: Christian Philipp Lindemann, Augsburg, after drawing by Johann Daniel Herz (I), c. 1725 - c. 1730, Bavaria, paper, engraving, etching, height 240 mm x width 160 mm, merchant, salesman, harbour, 30-40 years, A detailed black and white engraving shows a coastal scene with two men in the foreground near a stone building; one man stands wearing a long coat with decorative buttons and gestures with one hand while holding a hat in the other, looking toward the seated man who is at a table covered with cloth and appears to be engaged with papers and an inkwell, dressed in layered garments and a cap. Behind them a woman stands on steps in an arched doorway holding a small child aloft, while other figures are partially visible in the doorway and on the steps. To the left the shoreline features small boats and sailing ships at anchor with figures handling cargo and rigging near stacked crates and large barrels. Clouds fill the sky above the water, and vegetation and scattered rocks appear along the near edge of the shore. The lower portion of the image contains dense blocks of printed text.
