In the center a seated woman in a voluminous gown leans back in a high-backed chair while a man beside her leans forward, his arm around her shoulders and his hand near her chest; both figures wear period clothing and hairstyles. To the left a table covered with a fringed cloth holds a covered mirror or screen, a bottle, and a small round box. Decorative floral garlands hang over the table edge and a woven basket of flowers rests amid flowing carved scrollwork that fills the lower portion of the composition. The image is rendered with fine hatching and crosshatching to show textures of fabric, wood carving, and floral arrangements.
