Perched on the shell is a bird with a long tail, and nearby a parasol with a feathered plume leans against the composition. Grapevines with leaves and clustered fruit weave through the scene, surrounding the shell and trailing across the image. A woven nest rests near the base, with a small rodent perched on it, and a reclining goatlike animal lies in the foreground. On the right a figure in rustic clothing and a wide-brimmed hat stands holding a long staff, partially obscured by foliage and the shell motif. Scattered among these elements are additional natural forms, curled ornamental flourishes, and a collection of objects including a feathered hat and a pair of long narrow instruments, all rendered in fine linework.
