The print was first published in part 1: Topographia Galliae, 1655., church (exterior), Église du Monastere des Chartreux, A wide pale sky with layered bands of soft blue, pink, and yellow and scattered rounded clouds fills the top of the image above a complex of stone buildings; a large stone church with steep slate roofs, pointed arched windows, and a tall slender spire rises near the center, flanked by additional stone structures with gabled roofs and detailed masonry; to the left and right are multi-story buildings with red roofs and chimneys, one with a stepped brick wall in the foreground and another with smoke drifting from a chimney; small groups of tiny figures move in the open courtyard before the buildings, and low greenery and trees appear behind and beside the architectural complex.
