The print was first published in part 1: Topographia Galliae, 1655., church (exterior), Église Saint-Séverin, A wide view shows a large Gothic church with pointed arches and ornate tracery, a tall steeple rising from its roof, and rows of tall stained window shapes along its façade; in front of the church are small architectural structures, a column, and a few tiny figures clustered near the entrance. To the left, a ruined brick wall with greenery and trees frames a group of narrow, gabled houses with steep roofs and chimneys; similar rows of pitched-roof buildings with chimneys appear to the right. The foreground features a dirt ground with scattered stones and low vegetation. Above the scene a pale sky stretches across the image with layered horizontal bands of soft pastel colors and several rounded clouds.
