Chevalier, A., 1863, paper, etching, intaglio printmaking technique, height 240 mm x width 320 mm, Belongs to a series of four etchings for the publications of Cadart (IFF after 1800)., boar-hunting, pond, pool, A detailed black and white etching shows a marshy foreground with tall, strappy reeds and grasses framing a partially submerged boar lying in shallow water, its head turned slightly and its body nestled among the plant stems. Behind the boar the landscape opens to rolling, textured hills rendered with fine crosshatching and a few clustered trees on a distant ridge. Near the middle distance a small group of hounds and a mounted rider are depicted in motion on a gently sloping plain. The sky above is lightly sketched with horizontal lines and sparse, wispy clouds. The lower portion of the image contains a wide pale margin.
