On verso a fragment of the etching 'View of Veere' by Nieuwenkamp., printmaker: Wijnand Otto Jan Nieuwenkamp (signed by artist), in or after 1898, Wijnand Otto Jan Nieuwenkamp, printmaker, paper, zinc etching, intaglio printmaking technique, etching with plate tone on zinc, height 114 mm x width 316 mm, 'View of Veere' has catalogue number E 55 in Hubert, 1912., trees, palace, Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat, A sepia-toned landscape drawing shows a row of stylized trees with broad, flat canopies and textured trunks framing a central pathway. Ornate low stone railings with carved decorative panels run along the foreground on both sides, interrupted by gaps and a recessed archway in the center background. The path leads toward the archway and is bordered by patches of darker ground and tree roots. Fine linework creates dense shading in the tree canopies and stippled texture in the sky above the archway. The composition is symmetrical, with similar tree shapes and railing motifs mirrored on either side of the central arch.
