Landscape with farms and mill, print, annotation: '4emè Etât, 31 Mars 1883', printmaker: Jerôme Tuyttens (signed by artist), 1883-03-31, paper, etching, drypoint, intaglio printmaking technique, height 227 mm x width 317 mm, A detailed ink drawing shows a rural scene with a thatched-roof cottage at the left foreground, its doorway partly open with a figure standing inside and a child nearby; adjacent outbuildings and stacked wooden crates or pens sit beside the cottage. In front of the buildings, a pair of trees with twisting trunks and dense canopies of leaves extend branches across the composition, their foliage rendered with fine linear strokes. A dirt track curves from the foreground toward the middle distance, bordered by grassy and cultivated ground with low vegetation and furrowed texture. Further back, a smaller thatched building sits near hedgerows and clustered trees, and beyond that a distant landscape of fields and scattered trees stretches to the horizon where a windmill with visible sails stands. The sky is filled with swirling, textured cloud forms created from intricate crosshatching and layered lines.
