Paddle steamer moored at a quay, print, printmaker: Henri Seghers, 1858 - 1913, paper, etching, drypoint, intaglio printmaking technique, height 235 mm x width 318 mm, pier, quay, wharf, paddle-wheel boat, A riverside scene drawn in fine lines showing a dock with tall wooden pilings rising from the water and a moored steam vessel emitting a dark plume of smoke. A multi-masted sailing ship is visible behind the pilings, its rigging rendered in delicate strokes. Figures stand and walk along the wet cobbled quay, some near horses and carts, others in groups or alone, with reflections of people and objects visible on the wet surface. A sloping embankment and a flight of steps lead up to buildings and a lamppost on the right, while distant masts and structures line the horizon beneath a sky filled with layered, textured clouds.
