A heavy wooden beam crosses the scene, held by a bearded man wearing a cap on the right and supported by others nearby. Several figures in varied garments and headwear strain or lean toward the central figure, one gripping a rope over his shoulder and another kneeling or bending close to the fallen person. In the background a loosely sketched crowd forms a horizontal band, and the sky above is filled with horizontal hatch marks; textured lines and crosshatching define folds in clothing, facial features, and the ground beneath.
