To their right a table covered with a dark cloth holds small ornamental objects and a book, behind which a seated older man in robes gestures while a younger man stands beside him with a cloak over his shoulders. Further right a soldier in a decorated uniform sits in an ornate high-backed chair, flanked by other uniformed men, one standing with one hand on the seated man’s armrest. At left several figures in military attire and civilians stand or sit near chairs, some turned toward the central group. Architectural details include paneled walls, a columned pedestal, carved furniture, patterned draperies, and a framed tapestry or painting on the wall. The image is rendered in a monochrome engraving style with fine crosshatching and careful shading.
