Group of beggars, print, printmaker: Willem Linnig (II), 1852 - 1890, paper, etching, drypoint, intaglio printmaking technique, etching and drypoint with plate tone, height 174 mm x width 267 mm, beggars' procession, A sepia-toned etching shows a group of figures clustered beneath a series of shadowed arches. The figures wear tattered, flowing garments and some have cloaks or hoods; one figure at the left leans forward with a staff and a small lantern on the ground, while several central figures face each other in animated postures and gestures. A crouched figure with long hair is positioned near the front, and a few faces with beards or head coverings are visible among the crowd. Heavy cross-hatched shading fills the background, creating strong contrast with the lighter, more detailed lines used for the clothing and faces.
