He wears a high-collared shirt beneath a buttoned jacket, the fabric rendered with closely spaced lines and crosshatching to indicate folds and shadows. One forearm rests on a surface in front of him with visible hands and knuckles drawn in careful detail, and the background is largely blank with subtle stippling and hatching around the head and shoulders. The drawing uses a monochrome sepia tone throughout.
