Each portrait is an illustration accompanying the biography of an artist or scholar. Most of the portraits were produced by Nicolas de Larmessin (162), 93 by De Boulonois and a third by unidentified printmakers. This concerns an illustration on p. 133, part I., Person, Olivier de La Marche, historical persons, A sepia-toned engraved portrait of a middle-aged person shown from the chest up, facing slightly to the viewer's left, with short wavy hair and a solemn expression, wearing a loose, collared garment with visible folds and shading, holding a rolled object in both hands at chest level, the background filled with fine crosshatched lines, and a decorative emblem with foliage and a central round fruit cluster visible below the portrait.
