This portrait was part of the 'Galerie Napoléon' series, a collection of one hundred portraits of prominent figures from the circle of Napoleon Bonaparte. The series was published by Bénard in Paris in 1829-30. Person, Laurent de Gouvion Saint-Cyr, historical persons, ornament, cartouche, A vertically oriented engraved portrait shows a man dressed in a decorated military uniform with ornate shoulder epaulettes and medals on his chest, framed by an elaborate ornamental border of foliage, laurel wreaths, and heraldic elements. Above the portrait is a circular globe motif flanked by stylized foliage and topped by an eagle beneath radiating lines and a small star-like emblem. The surrounding border includes symmetrical decorative shields, ribbons, crossed weapons, and floral scrollwork that extend down to a central cartouche adorned with wreaths and a pair of crossed items. Below the portrait is an area with a flowing handwritten signature and additional ornamental printing marks beneath it. The image is monochrome, rendered with fine line engraving on a pale paper background.
