Landscape with cows and a farm, print, printmaker: Hippolyte Emmanuel Boulenger, 1847 - 1874, paper, etching, intaglio printmaking technique, height 248 mm x width 197 mm, farm or solitary house in landscape, cow, A sepia-toned line drawing of a landscape showing a foreground of grasses and low vegetation with irregular, textured strokes. Several slender, leafed trees with twisting trunks rise from the middle ground, their branches forming a lacy canopy. Beyond the trees the terrain opens to a flat plain with distant low vegetation along the horizon. The sky occupies much of the composition and is filled with long, sweeping, horizontal lines and a few larger, outlined cloud shapes. The overall image is composed of fine, sketch-like lines and hatching with varied density to indicate texture and depth.
