Steen, 1850 - 1899, paper, etching, intaglio printmaking technique, etching with plate tone, proof print, height 248 mm x width 303 mm, feasts of saints (and their relics), periodic celebrations, popular feasts, A crowded interior scene rendered in dark crosshatching shows several figures gathered around a table, many wearing hats or hoods and heavy draped clothing, with one figure holding a human skull aloft on a plate and another figure raising a ladle near an arched window; faces display varied expressions, some puckered or pursed, one wearing a tall ribbed headdress and smiling, another with a crown and a bottle tilted toward a face, while a figure at the lower right leans on a barrel and another at the lower left holds a cloth over a shoulder; a shelf with rounded objects is mounted on the wall and a small rectangular object hangs nearby, and folds of fabric and tablecloth cover the central table.
