Landscape with a sluice, Melancholy, print, sheet music, printmaker: Louis Adolphe Jacobs, 1865 - 1910, composer (person in music), paper, etching, intaglio printmaking technique, height 267 mm x width 194 mm, Sheet music for fiddle. Probably a fragment of a longer piece., sluice, weir, A faded illustration combining a landscape sketch and musical notation occupies the page, with a softly hatched sky above a cluster of trees and rolling grassy land that leads down to a small arched stone bridge over calm water; the bridge and nearby foliage are rendered in fine, sketchy lines and reflected faintly in the water below. The lower portion of the page is filled with printed musical staves and notes, with clefs, staff lines, and various musical symbols arranged in horizontal rows, and some decorative foliage and grasses sketched along the left edge where the landscape and notation overlap. The overall palette is monochrome with delicate, sepia-toned ink lines and areas of light shading, giving the sheet an aged, hand-drawn appearance.
