Two lions fighting over an antelope, print, printmaker: Eugène Van Hove (signed by artist), 1879 - 1910, paper, etching, intaglio printmaking technique, height 222 mm x width 303 mm, beasts of prey, predatory animals: lion, hoofed animals: antelope, Two large felines lie on the ground among tufts of grass and low bushes, their bodies intertwined; one shows a mane and a snarling face with bared teeth, the other has a smoother, elongated form and an open mouth as if growling or roaring. The scene is rendered in fine, textured lines with dense shading creating fur, muscles, and contours, and a rounded tail extends across the darker shrubbery behind them. Rocky ground and scattered vegetation sit beneath the animals, while the background shows rolling hills and a textured sky above.
