Each portrait is an illustration accompanying the biography of an artist or scholar. Most of the portraits were produced by Nicolas de Larmessin (162), 93 by De Boulonois and a third by unidentified printmakers. This concerns an illustration on p. 324, part II., Person, Marcus Musurus, historical persons, portrait of a writer, scholar, philosopher, A portrait engraving of a man shown in profile facing left, wearing a cap and a high collared garment, with short wavy hair visible beneath the cap and a pleated cloak draped over his shoulders; the background behind him is filled with closely spaced horizontal lines, and there is decorative engraved text and ornamental elements above and below the portrait, with a block of printed text and an ornate initial at the bottom.
