Lamentation of Christ, print, printmaker: Josué Dupon, after painting by Peter Paul Rubens, 1874 - 1909, paper, etching, intaglio printmaking technique, etching with plate tone, height 315 mm x width 239 mm, the mourning over the dead Christ, A sepia-toned etching shows a reclining male figure with closed eyes and a tilted head, his bare torso exposed and draped lower by a loosely wrapped cloth, one arm hanging limp and the other supported; surrounding him are four other figures with varied expressions, two of them holding a cloth near his head, one with a long beard looking toward him, another wearing a hood glancing upward, and a young person on the right with downcast eyes; detailed crosshatching renders hair, beards, folds of drapery, and the contours of muscles and hands, while a small circular object and a coiled rope lie near the base of the composition.
