Antwerp: sn, 1870-1880., cat, ink-well, A detailed monochrome drawing shows a tabletop scene with a reclining cat in the foreground, its head resting on a scroll or rolled paper and its tail curled upward; scattered sheets of paper lie beneath and around the cat. To the left of the cat is a tall candlestick with a partially melted candle, standing on a base with decorative shaping, and near it are small inkwell-type containers and a set of scales on the table. In the upper left corner a framed picture on the wall depicts people seated at a table with a child and a glass, and above the table area on the right side there are folded or pinned papers on the wall and a stack of books or boxes leaning at an angle. The image is rendered with fine cross-hatching and line work throughout.
