Swampland at dusk, print, printmaker: Emile de Baré (signed by artist), 1865 - 1902, paper, etching, intaglio printmaking technique, drypoint, plate tone and drypoint, height 209 mm x width 348 mm, landscapes, road, path, swamps and polders, A wide, flat landscape rendered in muted tones with a central dirt track leading toward the horizon, flanked by marshy ground and shallow pools of water. Dark, textured grasses and clumps of vegetation line the foreground and edges of the marshes, creating irregular, sketchy shapes. Low, distant tree lines and small, rounded shrubs appear along the horizon, silhouetted against a pale sky. A single, soft-edged cloud formation floats above the horizon, its shaded underside contrasted against the lighter sky. The overall image has a linear, etched quality with fine, crosshatched marks defining ground textures and reflections.
