In the foreground to the right a seated figure in simple, worn clothing and a head covering clasps a staff and looks toward the standing men. The ground around them is strewn with debris and irregular patches, and in the background on the right a building facade with arches and columns is dimly visible. The overall image has a diffuse, muted atmosphere with soft contrasts and areas of wear or spotting across the surface.
