In front of the cathedral there is a broad open plaza with lamp posts and a few small groups of people and horse-drawn carriages. To the left of the cathedral a row of multistory buildings with mansard roofs and awnings faces the plaza. Trees and planted areas sit between the cathedral and a stone embankment that runs along a river in the foreground, where stone steps descend to a lower walkway and a bridge spans the river. The scene is quiet and detailed, with architectural ornamentation visible across the buildings and subtle wear or spotting across the image surface.
