Midway down the slope, the glacier shows crevassed textures and striations as it descends toward a rocky moraine. Near the base of the mountain, a small cluster of buildings sits on a ledge; one building has a covered platform with an awning and a balcony, and another structure nearby has a tower with a pitched roof. Train tracks run diagonally across the lower left foreground toward the buildings, with a platform beside them where several people are standing and walking; some figures wear long coats and hats. Utility poles and wires are present along the tracks and near the buildings, and the ground around the station area is a mix of gravel, rocky outcrops, and patches of snow.
