Surrounding buildings with classical facades frame a broad open square, including a church with columns, statues, a large circular window, and a bell tower topped with a dome and cross, and adjacent structures feature arched porticoes, rows of windows, and ornate cornices. Two men in period clothing stand near the chained enclosure at the base of the monument, one leaning against a post and the other resting on the steps, while a lamppost with decorative metalwork rises near the pedestal and the paved street recedes into the distance between the buildings.
