Two laborers, sketchbook page. On the left, a man sits on a rock alongside uneven terrain. A high-pulled loincloth (veshti, lungi) leaves his legs uncovered, as well as his upper body. On the right, an object protrudes from his waist, perhaps the handle of a knife. The standing man on the right is dressed in a long shirt (kamisaya) of striped fabric – sleeveless – that reaches halfway down the thigh. On his bald head, he wears a worn hat (toppiya) with a hat cord. Both men were likely employed in Colombo for the reconstruction: the man on the left is from South India, the one on the right a toepas from Jaffna.
