The portraits vary between head-and-shoulders and full-figure poses, with some subjects shown in profile and others facing forward; backgrounds include plain backdrops, studio props such as chairs and small tables, and patterned studio flooring. The sheet has a wide margin and a lighter background, with a larger heading area at the top and small block captions beneath each portrait area. The photographic tones are sepia to grayscale, and the overall appearance is that of an old-fashioned, formal photographic montage.
