Jean, à Liége, Mary with Child, photograph, page, c. 1877 - in or before 1882, photographer, paper, albumen print, hand coloring, hand colored in yellow, red and blue, height 151 mm x width 137 mm, Madonna: ie Mary with the Christ-child, A painted depiction of a seated female figure wearing a long yellow robe and a jeweled crown, holding a smaller child figure on her lap; the child also wears a yellow garment and a necklace of red gems, and both figures have pale faces and visible hair. The seated figures rest on an ornate golden throne decorated with jewel-like accents and sculpted details, and a green serpent-like creature with a red round element lies at the base of the throne. The background is a mottled teal wash within a rectangular frame, and the whole scene sits above a pale border with printed elements partially visible at the bottom.
