Fig. 5.', maker: Maurits Verveer, c. 1878 - in or before 1879, paper, collotype, photogravure, height 285 mm x width 225 mm, Prints at the back of the book., lower animals, A faded, aged sheet with three horizontal bands each containing black-and-white photographic prints of small, crustacean-like marine specimens; the top band shows three specimens including a curled elongated form with looping filaments, a tufted, rootlike fragment, and an elongated, segmented body with jointed legs and a tapered tail; the middle band displays a dark, irregularly shaped specimen with overlapping plates and several appendages clustered beneath a curved dorsal edge; the lower band contains two smaller specimens, one rounded and spiny with fine legs and trailing filaments and the other a narrow, curved piece with a textured surface; the paper shows uneven discoloration, water stains, and scattered brown foxing spots.
