Square with idols in Bogolo (former title), Square with religious images in Bogolo, Places à fétiches au village de Bogolo, page, photomechanical print, number: 'Pl. 60.', photographer: Franz Thonner, Congo (country), cliché maker: Stengel & Markert, Dresden, 1896, Saxony, paper, collotype, photoprint, height 110 mm x width 161 mm, village square, A sepia-toned photograph shows a rustic outdoor scene with large broad-leaf plants and tall stems in the foreground, some leaves appearing torn or drooping. Interwoven wooden poles and bundles of dried leaves form a rough fence or enclosure around a central cluster of vegetation. Thatched structures with overlapping dried foliage create shaded areas, beneath which woven mats and reclining figures can be seen partially obscured. A weathered tree stump stands near the front edge of the scene and a small young plant grows from the ground nearby. In the background dense trees and undergrowth fill the upper portion of the image, and scattered branches and poles rise above the thatch and vegetation.
