In the foreground a small child stands with hands on hips near a dog at the figures' feet, and other dogs and animals appear among boots and sandaled feet. To the left a horse seen from behind and a procession of people climb a rocky slope with cliffs and a distant group of smaller figures visible on the path. On the right a cluster of richly robed men and bearded figures stand and ride, one with a tall pointed hood and another with a turban, while a town with towers and buildings is suggested on the distant horizon beneath a streaked sky. The image is densely filled with intricate crosshatching and linear shading that define faces, fabric patterns, muscles, and the rocky landscape.
