The photographs depict mostly head-and-shoulders views of men with varied facial hair styles including mustaches and beards, different hair lengths and textures, and neutral or serious facial expressions. The men wear assorted clothing such as jackets, collared shirts, and high collars, and the images have a sepia-toned, aged photographic appearance with occasional light spots and paper texture visible around the portraits. The overall layout is symmetrical with thin rules separating the portrait panels and small caption areas beneath each photograph.
