VI., Person, Cornelis van Aerssen jr., violent death, being killed, being mishandled and maltreated, seeking death, murder, Suriname, Period, 1688-07-19, A detailed engraving shows a group of uniformed men aiming long muskets toward a figure on a doorway; the men stand on a wooden floor with their legs braced and wear knee-length coats and hats, some seen from the back. The figure at the doorway leans backward off a small set of steps with one arm flung out and the other raised, holding a sword aloft, his mouth open and clothing ornate with a ruffled collar and pelisse. Behind the shooters a tall round tower and crenellated wall rise against a cloudy sky, and a leafy tree extends near the wall. The doorway is set into a paneled building with a separate raised platform and a large framed window beside the door, and smoke or vapor drifts across the midground between the shooters and the wall.
