Amsterdam: Jan Christiaan Sepp, 1783., Person, Felix Meritis, Amsterdam, Amsterdam City Hall (1655-1808), Period, 1777, A detailed engraved scene shows a tall pointed obelisk standing on a stepped base, flanked by two draped female figures; one is seated on the ground with flowing garments and a hat beside her, the other stands resting a hand on the obelisk while holding a garland in the other hand. At the front of the obelisk is a large medallion with intricate decorative imagery and a framed architectural motif. Surrounding the central monument are bushes, grasses, and trees with finely detailed leaves, and in the background to one side there is a classical building with a cupola and decorative roofline partially obscured by foliage, while on the other side a small domed pavilion is depicted with radiating lines behind it. The entire composition is rendered in delicate line work on a pale textured background.
