In front of the building a crowd of people fills the street, with groups of uniformly dressed figures standing in formation and other individuals walking or gesturing. A gilded carriage with an ornate wheel and a covered top is drawn by horses, attended by a seated driver and accompanied by footmen and passengers. Several people wear long coats and hats, and some carry staffs or flags; one mounted rider on a horse holds a flag. Spectators are visible in several upper windows, looking out at the scene below. Trees with leafy canopies stand on the left and right edges of the image, and a small dog runs across the foreground. The ground shows patches of grass and worn earth, and light, sketched clouds appear in the sky above.
